Oberndorfer Betonwerke
Quality and reliability are very important words in company Oberndorfers vocabulary and it was because of this that Helmut Oberndorfer turned to Hartl Powercrusher to offer a solution to his concrete recycling requirements.
Oberndorfer Concrete Works: PC 1375 I – Put to work in Herzogenburg, Austria
The upper austrian family-owned company Oberndorfer was established back in 1912 by Martin Oberndorfer. Originally working as roof tile, concrete pipe and wall stone manufacturers, the company has expanded over the years into a concern that now not only produces concrete components but also offers complete solutions for concrete related issues.
The present owner – Komm.-Rat Helmut Oberndorfer – took over the business from his father Franz back in 1978 and made a massive step forward by starting to produce steel reinforced concrete sections that led to enormous success for his company.

Looking towards the future and backing this up with investment, Komm-Rat Helmut Oberndorfer also commissioned the construction of a new production facility and concentrated on Partek/Elematik Extrusion processes, which had never been done in Austria before. He was in fact a pioneer in the field of extruded reinforced concrete with 50 cm thickness in Europe.
High flexibility, outstanding quality and innovation have made the company an integral part of Austrias construction industry and secured the company as the leader of pre-manufactured concrete products in Austria.
KR Helmut Oberndorfer had a visionary idea – in 1992 he started working with a Hartl Powercrusher to recycle components that were rejected by his strict quality control requirements. This was a very valuable step because the homogeneous crushed concrete was sold as road base or was reused in the extrusion process at a ratio of 1:10.
„The decision to invest again in a Powercrusher from Hartl was easily made, I realised years ago that from a production capacity and quality perspective, Powercrusher units are the best. After seeing the PC 1375 I in action, I was convinced that the new generation machines from Hartl Powercrusher were the solution to my crushing requirements. A powerful machine, easy to use and transport, and most importantly, the unit produces the highest quality material.” commented KR Helmut Oberndorfer “we have to use the machine in many different applications and for this reason it is important, that the machine is easily transported and that it is fully mobile also on sites with bad ground conditions.”
The Powercrusher PC 1375 I has now been working for a few months in Herzogenburg, lower Austria and is producing high quality products in high capacities. With an inlet opening of 1250 x 750 mm, the PC 1375 Impactor produces up to 300 t/h of crushed recycled concrete and is proving to be very successful under the toughest conditions which includes crushing long reinforced concrete blocks.
The vibrating hopper with integrated pre-screener is driven by a hydraulic motor and distributes the forces equally over the hopper area, thereby increasing the efficiency of the hopper and preventing sticky material from clinging to the sides of the hopper. The hopper can also be controlled by remote control and is regulated by a SPS-control which slows down or speeds up the vibro in relation to the load on the crusher rotor. This also allows an one-man-operation from the loader or excavator eliminating the need for an extra person to control the crusher.
Another determining factor for the Hartl Powercrusher is the quality and robustness of the conveyor belts. This is critical especially in the area of the crusher outlet when crushing concrete with re-bar sections. The PC 1375 I is fitted with a 19 mm specially manufactured steel reinforced belt that offers extremely long wear life. There are no rollers at the crusher outlet, instead Hartl uses specially designed shock absorbing plates (made of alternating rubber and steel sections). Another major advantage of the PC 1375 I when working in reinforced concrete crushing, is the ability of the entire conveyor belt to be lowered – this makes clearing out of blockages as well as service actions easier and quicker.
With a high strength magnetic belt, standard on all Powercrusher models, all steel is removed before the crushed concrete hits the stockpile. This make for a “clean” end product, which of course is more valuable and the scrap iron can also be sold to generate extra revenue.
The Covers and housing sections are manufactured from GRP composites. This allows for bigger and alternative shapes to be used and guarantees a high ease of maintenance and service as the large covers allow optimum access to the engine compartments.
“It is important that the machine consistantly runs well and the service and warranty issues are handled quickly, and this can only be achieved with a reliable and strong partner. Hartl Anlagenbau has proved to be the strong partner we were looking for.”
All in all a successful cooperation of two Austrian family-owned companies which are well known across many borders for their products “made in Austria”.
